On November 26th 2023 to December 1st 2023 our then Form 3 class had a Charity Project in Budalang’i Sub County. They were off to assist in construction of parts of the Bunyala Model School.

During the last term of the school; the Form 3 class raised some money for the construction works in areas of Bunyala Model School. 16 boys from the class were picked during the school holiday to represent the entire class. The students were accompanied by their teachers.

Indeed it was time well spent by the students!

This year the swimming team had 3 boys representing Kenya in the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA). They were Curtis Kamotho, Adam Otieno and Emmanuel Otieno.

The venue was in Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare, Huye, Rwanda. Kenyan team had 30 swimmers from different Secondary Schools in the country; Strathmore School produced 3 boys.

Their performances in the Kenya Team were as follows:

Emmanuel Otieno
-Bronze Medal
-Position 3 in 100m Freestyle

Adam Otieno
-Silver Medal
-Position 2 in 200m Mixed Relay [Breastroke]

Curtis Kamotho
-Bronze Medal
-Position 3 in 50m Backstroke.

All in all the Kenyan Swimming Team took 2nd position with Uganda and Rwanda scooping 1st and 3rd respectively.

Next year we hope the team make it to Uganda for the same tournament with more numbers from the school!

After the mid of Term 2, classes from the Primary and Secondary sections geared up for the internally organized inter-class football tournament.

The Primary tournament was held in the afternoon break and The Secondary tournament in the evening after class.

The boys displayed skill, team strategy, intensity and discipline as each class put out it’s best players to contest for the trophies.

For the Primary Section the Standard 8s were the winners with Grade 6s emerging runners up.

For the Secondary Section the Form 3A were champs in a Form 3 finals derby which saw 3 Alpha scoop the runners up slot.

We hope for a good football season in Term 3 as school teams are picked for the International Schools Games.

The Debate club had a successful season: In The Strathmore University Debate Contest Strathmore School dominated the list of top speakers, securing the first four positions. Adrian Kinyanjui achieved the 4th rank, followed by Kwame Kimani at 3rd position. Aaron Kiuna earned the 2nd spot, while Emmanuel Mumo was crowned as the best speaker of the tournament. The team of Kwame and Adrian were crowned champions securing the coveted 50% scholarship to Strathmore University to a course of their choice.

Previous to this, the debate team took part in the Mashujaa debate championship, 4th Edition and the team featured best speakers; Enock Maina, Adrian Kinyanjui and Kwame Kimani. The other club members were in teams which were: Quiz Team finalists, Silver cup winners, Main cup semi-finalists and Gold Cup finalists. The quiz masters were Jesse Kwame, Keith Murithi and Andrew Kimeu; all being new entrants to the debate team.

Later in the season the team traveled to South Africa for a PASDC(Pan African Schools Debate Championship) where the team got recognition as Best East African Speakers. They were ranked 2nd best Debate Institution from East Africa. The Championship comprised of over 170 East African Schools. Adrian Kinyanjui was 1st position, Ian Irungu 4th and Kwame Kimani 5th, David Mwige 7th, Jason Ngugi 9th, Fidel Muthemba 12th, Ryan Muilu 19th, Enoch Maina 24th and Ronnie Mungai 46th.

Congratulations to the gallant men and their Patron Mr. Clifford Nanzushi. What a great season!

On 4th July the whole school took to the fields again this time to participate specifically in track and field events. All classes from Grade 1 to Form 4 participated.

The events featured were Tyre Race, Skipping Race, Spoon Race, Sack Race, 100M, 200M, 400M, 4 by 100M, 800M, 1500M. Also field events: Shot Put, Discus, High Jump and Long Jump.

Discus was the new feature this year in field events. Great performances recorded during the day were:

Kamau Kange Form 1 Broke the High Jump record.

Form 3 had the fastest 4 by 100M times in the school. The 4 runners in this great 4 by 100M team were: Bessel Onyango, Ryan Mwilu, Davis Tatuli and Jacob Muchunu.

Jason Kibungei Standard 8 won both the 800M and 1500M primary section race.

Andrew Muchigi Standard 8 won 100M, 200M, Primary Shot Put, Primary Long Jump and Primary Discus.

What an Athletic day!

Unlike all other seasons, this season saw the start of competitive rugby in Grade 7s(Under 13 years). This was a step forward by the administration to get the game into the young lads.

The U13s were not able to participate in any tournament but they had a friendly triangular tournament which featured RVA and Cavina School. It was a great afternoon to see the young players new in the game putting their best foot forward to win against both schools.

On a different scene; the Under 15 years (Form Ones) also had their share of introduction to the game. They had a chance of participating in the International schools league tournament. They started off by playing friendlies which they lost. At some point at the start of the season one would have easily gotten discouraged if there was need to have Form Ones play but as they played more games they were able to become better and display good quality rugby. In the ultimate Under 15s Tournament at RVA they became second losing the the defending champions St. Andrews School Turi by a 2 point margin in the finals.

For the Under 16 years (Form 2s) the boys participated in the Damu Changa league and Blackrock 10s tournament. These leagues exposed them to the game as they only had a chance to play 1 game in their Form 1 year. In the leagues they got ejected in the group stages and Quarter finals respectively. They displayed hope for the future of the game in the school!

For the seniors (Form 3s and Form 4s) the team had mixed fortune as the Team A 7s started off the season by winning Gold in the annual Hillcrest U19s 7s aside tournament. The team A also featured in the Nairobi County 15s, Prescott Cup 15s and Blackrock 10s tournament. In all the 3 tournaments they recorded minor losses and got ejected in Quarter finals, Group Stages and Quarter Finals respectively.

With all this action the school rugby team has a bright future worth looking forward to!

Talent show in the school has become an annual event which features a variety of activities that enable the boys bring out the talents that they have nurtured away from class. The primary and secondary shows are held separately with the primary talent show being held in the swimming pool and the secondary on the library forecourt.

Both sections had afternoons on different days where there were live performances. Pieces of art work were also exhibited and displayed.

It was evident after the two afternoons that the boys have more than what they receive from classwork!
