Last year 2023 was the last of the (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education)KCPE cohort countrywide. It is also the last Form 1 class transitioning to our Secondary Section from the Primary Section. Justin Kariuki emerged scholar of the year for the primary class. He was interviewed by our students media team. These were his comments:

Media Team: How does it feel to be the top of your class in KCPE?
Justin Kariuki: It was a really nice feeling especially when I had just found out!
Media Team: Were you expecting to do this well?
Justin Kariuki: Honestly, I was not really expecting such a high mark. I can say I was hoping for it.
Media Team: How did you prepare yourself?
Justin Kariuki: I made sure I studied a lot and was always listening in class.
Media Team: Who would you like to thank the most?
Justin Kariuki: I would like to thank my parents. The support I got from them was monumental. I would not have gotten this far if it were not for them.
Media Team: What would you like to tell the next candidates in line?
Justin Kariuki: Make sure to listen to your teachers, study a lot and probably most importantly, keep motivated.

On November 26th 2023 to December 1st 2023 our then Form 3 class had a Charity Project in Budalang’i Sub County. They were off to assist in construction of parts of the Bunyala Model School.

During the last term of the school; the Form 3 class raised some money for the construction works in areas of Bunyala Model School. 16 boys from the class were picked during the school holiday to represent the entire class. The students were accompanied by their teachers.

Indeed it was time well spent by the students!

KCSE Exams, National Examinations

We wish to congratulate the class of 2023 for an impressive performance in their KCSE examinations.

The class posted a mean score of 10.08 with 13 students scoring straight As. Three of these students scored 84 points, the maximum aggregate possible! We note with appreciation that 97% of the class met university entry requirements.

 

The class also posted impressive results in Computer Studies (12.00); French (11.37); Mathematics (11.25) and Kiswahili (10.345).

We thank all the teachers who walked with these students, especially during the shortened post-Covid academic years. The teachers went out of their way to hold after-school and Saturday classes in order to accelerate syllabus coverage. Many teachers held one-on-one remedial sessions, which went a long way in addressing learning gaps. This self-giving has yielded dividends! A big thank you to our teachers!

Special thanks to our parents for walking with your sons and for making heroic sacrifices for them. Your efforts, unconditional love and sacrifices have gone a long way in realising the success we celebrate today. Thank you, our parents!

And to our candidates who did the heavy lifting: studying in a day school requires self-discipline, self-drive and a strong will. You displayed all these and more and you have reaped the fruits; congratulations!

As you move on to the next phase of your academic journey, we are confident that you have the knowledge and skills to succeed in whichever field you choose. We are also confident that you go out to the world carrying within you the values and attitudes that make you true men of integrity.

As we promised you on Prize Giving Day, you can count on our prayers and remember, in Strathmore, you will always have a home!

We regret to announce the death of Mr. Patrick Mwaniki Mbogo on 1st October 2023 after a sudden illness.

Mr. Mwaniki served as a teacher in Strathmore School between September 1982 and September 1994.
Strathmore School not only mourns the passing of a beloved educator, but also celebrates the life of a man who left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of generations! Mr. Mwaniki was more than a teacher; he was a mentor, a coach, and a beacon of wisdom, a man who dedicated his life to shaping not just the minds, but also the character; teaching the art of manliness through his words and deeds. The hundreds of boys he taught at Strathmore looked up and continue to look up to him with admiration and profound respect.

On the tennis court, Mr. Mwaniki imparted not only the skills of the game but also the virtues of discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship. His coaching extended beyond the boundaries of the rugby field, where he moulded young men into a formidable team, instilling in them the virtues of teamwork, leadership, and the importance of giving their all.

But perhaps Mr. Mwaniki’s greatest gift was his ability to inspire his students to be responsible adults who cared for the little duties of each moment. He understood that true manhood was not just about physical prowess but about character, integrity, and a commitment to the betterment of oneself and the world.

Mr. Mwaniki’s dedication to his students was unparalleled! He was not just a teacher during school hours; he was a mentor who offered guidance, a shoulder to lean on, and a role model to look up to. His impact transcended the classroom, as he fostered a sense of responsibility and purpose in the young minds he touched. He moulded with love; sometimes with striking firmness, but always with love.

Indeed, as we mourn the loss of Mr. Mwaniki, we also celebrate the enduring legacy he leaves behind. The boys he taught and inspired have grown into responsible adults who carry his teachings and example with them, not only in their professional lives but also in their character, their dedication to the little duties of every day, and their commitment to making the world a better place.

Though Mr. Mwaniki may no longer be with us in person, his lessons and his spirit will continue to guide generations to come. In the hearts and actions of the countless lives he touched, he lives on as a shining example of the art of manliness and responsible adulthood.

Rest in peace, dear Mr. Mwaniki, knowing that your impact on the world is immeasurable, and your legacy, eternal!

This year the swimming team had 3 boys representing Kenya in the Federation of East African Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA). They were Curtis Kamotho, Adam Otieno and Emmanuel Otieno.

The venue was in Groupe Scolaire Officiel de Butare, Huye, Rwanda. Kenyan team had 30 swimmers from different Secondary Schools in the country; Strathmore School produced 3 boys.

Their performances in the Kenya Team were as follows:

Emmanuel Otieno
-Bronze Medal
-Position 3 in 100m Freestyle

Adam Otieno
-Silver Medal
-Position 2 in 200m Mixed Relay [Breastroke]

Curtis Kamotho
-Bronze Medal
-Position 3 in 50m Backstroke.

All in all the Kenyan Swimming Team took 2nd position with Uganda and Rwanda scooping 1st and 3rd respectively.

Next year we hope the team make it to Uganda for the same tournament with more numbers from the school!

In the last few years, the school has intensified its efforts in nurturing talent in extracurricular activities.

This has seen a steady rise in the number of clubs and societies in the school. The introduction of the Competency  Based Curriculum (CBC) has necessitated a paradigm shift in pedagogy, making learning more student-centered, practical and hands-on. In view of the above, the school has come up with the Activity Block Project  aimed at addressing the growing need for facilities to accommodate the needs identified.

After the mid of Term 2, classes from the Primary and Secondary sections geared up for the internally organized inter-class football tournament.

The Primary tournament was held in the afternoon break and The Secondary tournament in the evening after class.

The boys displayed skill, team strategy, intensity and discipline as each class put out it’s best players to contest for the trophies.

For the Primary Section the Standard 8s were the winners with Grade 6s emerging runners up.

For the Secondary Section the Form 3A were champs in a Form 3 finals derby which saw 3 Alpha scoop the runners up slot.

We hope for a good football season in Term 3 as school teams are picked for the International Schools Games.
