On Saturday, 7th October 2017, the Sports Department organized a soccer tournament for 13 years & Under. This event attracted nine teams from other schools and three teams from the host. The teams were grouped into two pools of six teams each and the matches kicked off at 10:00 am. The preliminaries were much easier for the teams that were strong and well prepared. The knockouts were very tough as some teams had to go down to penalties to determine the winners. The results saw Strathmore B & C proceed to the semi-finals where they both won and qualified for the finals. The finals was described as a derby as Standard 6 faced Standard 7 in the tournament. The two classes have had stiff competition during Inter-class competition. Strathmore B won the tournament with two goals to nil as Makini School settled for 2nd runners up after winning in the playoffs.
The Roller Blading Club held a class challenge on Tuesday, 3rd October 2017 during the extra-curricular activities lessons. The event was organised by Skate Studios with the help of the Roller Blading patron, Mr. Muiruri. The prizes i.e. medals and T-shirts were awarded to the top three students. The results per category herein below.
We began the year in January on a good note. The school calendar has been full of activities in and outside class. Our primary pupils did exemplary well in their studies and in extra-curricular activities. The secondary students too did not disappoint. All the school teams registered impressive results in the competitions they took part in. The highlight of them all was the school choir which attained position 1 in 6 categories at the Kenya National Music Festivals held in Kakamega.
We were delighted to hold our Annual Prize Giving (PGD) Ceremony on the afternoon of Saturday, 16th September 2017 to reward our pupils and students. Students, members of staff, parents and past students attended this event.
The audience was entertained by delightful performances from the School choir which presented some of the items that won at the festivals. The teachers’ choir too presented 2 items of “Zilizopendwa”. As usual the presentations were very entertaining and it left the audience yearning for more.
After about two years of preparation, 32 pupils of standard 3 finally received Holy Communion for the first time on Saturday, 20th May 2017. They had been looking forward to that moment with more and more eagerness as the final preparations were being made. The boys were also glad to receive their first confession that week and many of them were happy to go several more times to prepare themselves. Before the actual day, many of us also witnessed the boys rehearse for the ceremony, moving around the compound in two orderly lines guided by their class teacher Mr. Muiruri. Their effort paid off as their orderly movement helped to make the day a success.
In his homily, the chaplain, Fr. Francis reminded those present that this year is the 100th anniversary of the appearance of the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children in Fatima Portugal. He told them that before the 13th of May 1917, the three children received their first communion from the hands of an angel as a preparation for their first meeting with the Mother of Jesus and as a way of preparing them to receive the important message she had for the whole world. Fr. Francis further encouraged the boys to love Jesus in the Eucharist. As a show of their gratitude to Jesus, communicants sang a wonderful song.
The number of boys receiving first Holy Communion this year was the highest in the recent past and for that reason we had a large gathering of relatives and friends coming to witness the great moment. There were several grandparents present and they were clearly joyful at seeing the young ones make a major step in their Christian life. The boys as good hosts shared their joy with them by inviting their guests to a tasty bite of cake and other refreshments. Parents, sisters and brothers also assisted in making the other guests feel at home and making the day a great success.
Following the resignation of the Deputy Principal, Mr John Paul Siboe, with effect from Wednesday, 31st May, we are pleased to announce that the Strathmore School Board has made the following appointments:
Mr. Frederick Mogusu (Deputy Principal)Mr. John Paul Siboe (Outgoing Deputy Principal)
Mr Frederick Mogusu has been appointed the new Deputy Principal. Mr Mogusu, who is currently serving as Head of Secondary Section, joined Strathmore School in 2000. In 2008, he left Strathmore School to help in the founding of Bozindo School in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, an institution run along the same lines as Strathmore School. He returned to Strathmore in 2013 and was appointed Head of Secondary Section. Mr Mogusu, a Bachelor of Arts (French & Economics) holder from the University of Nairobi, will also continue with his duties as a teacher of French.
Mr. Alfred Odisa (Head of Secondary Section)
Replacing Mr Mogusu as Head of Secondary Section is Mr Alfred Odisa, currently serving as Deputy Head of Secondary Section. Mr Odisa, also Head of Kiswahili Department, has 19 years of teaching experience. He joined Strathmore School in 2009. Mr Odisa holds Bachelor of Education and Master of Education (Educational Administration) degrees from the University of Nairobi. He is also currently a Doctoral candidate in Educational Administration in the same university.
Mr. Andrew Karani (Deputy Head of Secondary Section)
Mr Andrew Karani will replace Mr Odisa as Deputy Head of Secondary Section. Mr Karani, currently serving as Sports Director and a past student of the school (Sportsman of the Year 2005), holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (First Class Honours) from the University of Nairobi. He joined Strathmore School as a Computer Studies teacher in 2012.
These appointments will take effect on Thursday, 1st June 2017.

We would also like to most sincerely thank Mr Siboe for his invaluable contribution to the school as an assistant teacher, teacher, tutor and administrator. As a Deputy Principal, Mr Siboe proved to be an extremely hardworking, efficient, reliable and dependable Teacher, often going beyond his call of duty in service of the school. His services and presence in the school will be sorely missed.
We wish Mr Siboe God’s blessings and the best of luck in his new endeavours.
The annual Talent Show is continually gaining more popularity in the school. This year, the annual event has been introduced in the primary section. A number of pupils were auditioned in March in various performances such as Photography, Dances, solo presentations, rap songs, instrumentals etc. The inaugural Primary Talent Show qill be held on Friday, 2nd June 2017.
The Swimming Gala for the Primary section was held on Saturday, 25th March 2017 at the swimming pool. The event attracted many pupils from Standard 1 to 8 while many others came to cheer their friends. All participants who emerged 1st, 2nd and 3rd were awarded medals.
The Basketball competitions for Westlands Sub County began in January. Strathmore School prepared well for this year’s competitions after they lost narrowly in 2016 to St. Austins School. One of their best performances was at the semi finals where they beat Nairobi School 78-48. They won against Hospital Hill and emerged the champions in Westlands Sub County.
In the preliminaries stage of Westlands Sub Region, Strathmore won all their matches but lost narrowly against Starehe Boys. They met Hospital Hill in the playoffs and emerged victorious.
Strathmore School proceeded to represent Westlands Sub Region in the Regional competitions. The matches at this level were very competitive both physically and mentally. The team played well and they won against Lenana School but lost to Highway School. This made them emerge position 2 and had to face the most competitive side from the other group that was Upperhill School. They were eliminated at the semi finals but managed position 4 in the entire region. The full scores and photos can be found below.
The Kenya Association of Independent International Schools Sports Organization (KAIISSO) Basketball season began in January and ended with all the finals on Friday, 10th March 2017. Strathmore School was represented by three teams i.e Team A, B and C. These teams comprised of players of under 19, 17 and 15 respectively. The Patrons for the teams were Mr. Githaiga – Team A, Mr. Kerongo – Team B and Mr. Muttai – Team C.
All the teams played well in their preliminaries even though they didn’t manage to qualify for the semi finals. The full scores and photos of the season can be found below.
This event filled with pomp and colour took place on Saturday, 11th March 2017. The venue of the inaugural championship was the indoor arena at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Schools started streaming into the venue as early as 12:00pm for a 2:00pm kick off. A total of 30 schools turned out for the event. These 30 schools will represent the 30 teams that make up the actual NBA tournament in the United States.
Before this day, three coaches, namely Mr. Brian Njoroge, Mr. John Thomas Nyakundi and Mr. Brian Abuto, were taken through rigorous coaching courses at USIU on Thursday and Friday to enlighten them on the tactical, technical and physical facets of the game.
The Under 12 School Team comprising of 13 Standard 6 boys namely James Kiumi, Terema Matiko, Benedict Mbalu, Michira Mbugua, Philip Mugambi, Sean Muiga, Victor Nzoka, Paul Ochieno, Edwin Okwach, Mark Towett and Jeremy Wachira arrived at the venue shortly after 1:00pm.
Lunch was served by 1:30pm. At 2:00pm the speeches were given namely by the US ambassador to Kenya, the Director of Operations of the NBA, a basketballer for the women’s version of the NBA (WNBA) and a representative from Ford Company, Ryan Majiwa, who is an old boy of the School (F4 2003). Ford is sponsoring the Championship.
After the speeches the crowd was entertained by professional dunkers from the United States who left the crowds mesmerized at their athletic prowess.
The event concluded with an exhibition match.
Each of the teams was to be given a kit of one of the 30 NBA teams through a kind of draft selection. Strathmore School selected the Phoenix Suns kit. The team has received 10 training balls.
